Novo Nordisk

From napkin sketch to Industry 4.0 systems

Making complexity usable at scale

The challenge

Novo Nordisk’s production lines generate vast amounts of complex data.

Our task was to make it clear and actionable; for operators, engineers, and management alike.

Where it started

In 2019, we introduced Novo Nordisk to Laravel

After a few convincing demonstrations, the first project was launched; a forward-looking prototype of what production lines could look like.

Starting from a simple engineer’s ‘napkin sketch’, we built a fully integrated and user-tested system that set the benchmark internally. It became a beacon project, one that other teams could look to for inspiration.

Production line optimisation

The framework

We designed and built a system that collects and compresses data from the production lines, pushes it to AWS, and visualises it on large 100″ displays on-site. Operators, engineers, and managers get real-time insights on everything from component efficiency to power usage and fault frequency.

Turning complex into concrete

The system tracks recurring issues, enables predictive maintenance, and simplifies onboarding. Reports can be generated in any format and delivered on custom intervals. By cross-referencing event counts, downtime, and scrap rates, it’s easy to see what’s working — and what isn’t.

Visualisation & insight

Images and 3D models of every part are embedded directly in the interface, making machinery easier to understand and maintain. Colour sensors monitor product print quality in real time, reducing waste. Mechanics can plan interventions during natural downtimes, avoiding unnecessary stops.

Powerful follow-up projects

Docuflow & Oralflow

For R&D testing, we built two documentation tools: Docuflow for non-orally ingested medicine and Oralflow for oral variants.

Both systems handle complex logging and export requirements, including auto-generated, regulation-compliant Word documents for FDA and EU approval.

eLabelling

We also developed the frontend and backend for Novo Nordisk’s digital eLabelling system — used by a 300-person unit. The platform manages health labelling data at scale and delivers product info via QR codes, ensuring compliance and accessibility across global markets.

Designing the future of pharma operations

From a single prototype to multiple core systems, our collaboration with Novo Nordisk continues to evolve.

As their teams push for smarter production, better insight, and global compliance, we remain their trusted partner — designing tools that turn complexity into clarity.
